Enhancing customer experiences with technology and supporting Hong Kong’s development into an international innovation and technology hub
(28 March 2019, Hong Kong) China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) and Sino Group jointly present Hong Kong’s first in-mall 5G Experience Showcase, ‘The Future is Now', at Olympian City 2. Today, Mr Kenneth Lau, Chairman of the Communication Association of Hong Kong; Dr Li Feng, Chairman of CMHK; Mr David Ng, Group General Manager of Sino Group; Dr Max Ma, Director & Executive Vice President of CMHK; Mr Sunny Yeung, Executive Director of Sino Group, celebrated the launch of ‘The Future is Now’ 5G Experience Showcase together with other illustrious guests.
The showcase will be held for four days, from 28 to 31 March 2019. It comprises six experience zones to introduce and demonstrate the 5G technology. Through exhibiting interactive devices – including the Invincible Janken Machine, Smart Glasses and an autonomous vehicle, etc. – the showcase will enable visitors to understand more about 5G technology, its benefits and the integral role it will play in the future. The general public can connect to the 5G public WiFi with smart devices from 1 to 7 April 2019.
Dr Li Feng, Chairman of China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK), said, ‘We are very pleased to work with Sino Group in developing the first 5G showcase, “The Future is Now”. As one of the city’s leading mobile network operators, CMHK is imperative to proactively advancing the development of Hong Kong’s 5G mobile communication network. Out of Hong Kong's many mobile carriers, CMHK is the first network provider to receive the 5G trial permit, and has succeeded in engineering Hong Kong’s first end-to-end 5G network testing as well as the first Commercial Equipment Field-Testing of 28GHz 5G base stations. In the future, CMHK will continue to adhere to the concept of ‘4G changes lives, 5G changes society’ by presenting “5G+ Project” in three agendas: firstly, to complement the existing 4G network with 5G infrastructure; to promote 5G with new networking technology; and develop more comprehensive 5G ecosystems to maximise the value of 5G.’
‘CMHK will work closely with Sino Group to accelerate Smart City Development in Hong Kong in the future,’ added Dr Lee.
Commenting on the importance of technological innovation and 5G, Mr Daryl Ng, Deputy Chairman of Sino Group, says, ‘Technological innovation and 5G are our future, and Sino Group is committed to supporting innovation and technology to build a better future. Over the past five years, we have been promoting innovation and technology through different platforms serving different sectors, building a holistic innovation eco-system as Hong Kong grows into an international technology and innovation hub. For instance, primary four to six students can learn coding and robot design through Go Code and Robot Maker, primary and secondary schools can get exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at OC STEM Lab, university students or graduates can try out their ideas through entrepreneurship initiatives in collaboration with HKU and HKUST while start-ups and technology companies can test out their inventions at the sandbox platform of Sino Inno Lab or building business at the X-Lab. We are excited about the wide applications and possibilities 5G can bring to the Group and Hong Kong. With the development of the Greater Bay Area, it is even more crucial in developing a diversified economy, promoting social development and Hong Kong’s success.’
Mr David Ng, Group General Manager of Sino Group, adds, ‘Sino Group is committed to harnessing technology to enhance customers’ experience and adding value to our stakeholders. We are honoured to forge the strategic partnership with China Mobile Hong Kong. The deployment of 5G technology and associated applications will bring tremendous value to our customers. The 5G Experience Showcase is a concrete step forward, with more to come, such as Smart Home, Smart Shopping Mall and Smart Property Management as well as the 5G-ready infrastructure at Grand Central and Olympian City, making them among the first in Hong Kong. There are plans to extend the 5G infrastructure to other properties, such as tmtplaza, China Hong Kong City as well as new projects.’

Six Experience Zones
Zone One: Invincible Janken Machine
Invincible Janken Machine evaluates its opponent’s gesture through a sensory system by using 5G leased lines which make it ‘Invincible’
Zone Two: The Journey to 5G
Zone Two displays an autonomous vehicle jointly developed by CMHK and ASTRI to show how 5G technology can create a more advanced society
Zone Three: 4G vs 5G Data Speeds Battle
The 5G download speed can be 10-20 times faster than 4G. The audience can experience how much faster 5G is than 4G in this area.
